RS #1A Rage

Building on RS #1 exploration of Jim Coble expression of rage, Evans, Boyce and Bibene add the voice of Black women to that rage. Bringing in the story of Dorcas, the only description of which is from an article describing one of the largest slave sales in Georgia’s history in 1859. The well meaning journalist describes her as “frozen like a statue.” What rage, grief and power lies beneath the frozen exterior? What comes when it melts. In RS #1A we explore the ongoing reconstruction of our inner landscapes beginning with these hidden stories of rage and grief from slavery and the Reconstruction period. In conjuring, embodying these stories can activate the liberatory potential of rage and grief?

Reconstruction Study #1A premiered at the Black Choreographers Festival, Summer 2016.
